How the 2014 Buick Regal Achieves More Power and Efficiency

The 2014 Buick Regal, a recent arrival at McGrath Buick GMC Cadillac, is holding the sport sedan’s most powerful engine ever.

Powerful driving is great, but what about fuel-economy, which usually has a negative correlation with performance?

Thanks to some innovative engineering, the new 2014 Buick Regal is not only more powerful, it’s also 17% more efficient.

2014 Buick Regal: More Powerful, More Efficient

Crunching the Numbers: The 2.0L four-cylinder turbo engine in the 2014 Buick Regal produces 259 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, all while picking up an EPA estimated 21 mpg city and 30 mpg hwy, an increase of 3 mpg over the previous model.

The combination of power and efficiency comes from a lot of factors, particularly the improved twin-scroll turbocharger, which uses air intake more effectively, getting the most from every drop of gasoline.

GM’s advanced 2.0L turbo-charged engine actually made its debut in the Cadillac ATS, earning a spot on Ward’s list of the 10 best engines on the road.

The engine in the Cadillac ATS and Buick Regal is comprised of 95% new parts compared to the outgoing engine. The system uses a cast aluminum cylinder block and direct fuel-injection, further enhancing efficiency and power.

Other changes to the 2.0L Turbo include:

  • All new combustion system
  • Higher compression ratio
  • Redesigned cylinder head
  • Sound-absorbing intake manifold cover
  • Forged steel camshaft

Beating the Competition: The power source actually gives the Buick Regal more standard horsepower and torque than the Acura TSX, Audi A4, Lexus IS 250, Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, Volkswagen CC, and Volvo S260.

“We really strived to not only give the customer great performance, but also a smoother, quieter, and more refined engine, all essential elements in a Buick.”

– Mike Katerberg, chief powertrain engineer

In addition to the Turbo engine, the 2014 Buick Regal is available with advanced all-wheel drive which includes an electronic limited-slip differential.

These technologies come together to create an exceptional driving experience while giving drivers more mileage from every tank.
