2014 Cadillac CTS Wins Motor Trend Car of the Year

The 2014 Cadillac CTS has earned Motor Trend Car of the Year.

The car is now a champion in the automotive world, but it didn’t happen by dominating only one category. With its lighter size, superior handling, advanced safety, and refined interior, the CTS is the perfect example of Cadillac’s “Art and Science” manta.

But the CTS also championed the value category, helping it catapult the competition and grasp the most recognized award in the automotive industry.

All Hail the Engineers

Engineering CTS

The 2014 CTS’s engineering is built for the highways but capable at the racetrack.

While they had good things to say across the board, in Motor Trend’s announcement article, Scott Evans seemed to heap the most praise towards the Cadillac CTS’s advanced engineering.

To start, the CTS rides on the new Alpha platform that took the world by storm underpinning the Cadillac ATS, with improved ride performance and handling. The author noted that the CTS chassis is hundreds of pounds lighter than the competition.

Motor Trend really loved the magnetic ride control, saying it helps the CTS stay composed and in control, even during the most trying situations.

The experts stressed that while the CTS is a great performance car, capable of handling the track, it true greatness comes through as a daily commuter. Vibrations, noise, and road coarseness are all mitigated by the advanced engineering, leaving the driver with a relaxing cabin.

Harshness from the powertrain and suspension are notably absent, with only the slap of the tires to remind you of the world outside.

Near-Perfect Design

design CTS

The exterior design of the 2014 CTS helped it claim the title.

The Cadillac CTS has been a design-focused vehicle since its inception for the 2002 model year. The 2014 model, the start of the third generation, takes artistic design to another level, with use of angles, lights, and corners that deliver an impressive picture.

Most notably, the “light blade”, the LED lights running vertically on the front end, give the CTS a purposeful and effective look. The designers also added length to the CTS and gave the vehicle a forward-leaning proportion that is reminiscent of a powerful rear-wheel drive performance car.

Inside, the CTS continues the “Art and Science” mantra with defined creases and angles highlighted by premium leather and detailed stitching. For quality driving, the simple and clean layout fully optimizes the CTS’s technology and functionality.

This new car leaves no question. Art and Science is as relevant and trend-busting as it’s ever been…it has once again evolved in order to remain contemporary and competitive.

The high-quality interior is one of the many strong features of the 2014 CTS.

Practicality Brings it all Together
A vehicle is a lot like a football team- it needs excellence from every aspect in order to be a champion.

No matter how great the engineering, no matter how impressive the design, if a car doesn’t have good fuel-efficiency, excellent safety, and bring high-quality value, it won’t be considered the best. Excellent performance in these categories pull the entire package together, helping the Cadillac CTS claim the title of Motor Trend Car of the Year.

These qualities helped the CTS rise to the top, creating a vehicle for the ages. Automotive experts and reviewers have long been wondering if Cadillac could compete with its German luxury rivals; we now have a clear answer. Those same people are now asking if Cadillac’s competition can compete with the 2014 CTS.

If it’s not obvious yet, the CTS’ intended function is to take the fight to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi — and win. It had to beat them on style, on performance, on comfort, and on quality. It has.
