Cadillac Plans to Change Logo by Trimming Wreaths

Cadillac could be changing their logo for the first time in over a decade, dropping the classic wreath while keeping the shield.

According to Automotive News, the new logo will appear on a concept vehicle that Cadillac plans to show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, an automotive charity event which begins in mid-August.

A spokesman has confirmed that a Cadillac will be shown at the event but declined to comment on the new logo.

Why Drop the Wreaths?

The plan to dismiss the wreaths is prompted by feedback from potential customer, who see the wreaths as outdated and obsolete.

Tests found that reactions to the wreaths were almost universally negative, often because people found them to be old-fashioned and dated.

The logo has not changed since 2000, but Cadillac’s image has been going through plenty of transformation.

The new brand theme is “Art and Science”, which reflects Cadillac’s goals for attractive styling molded around advanced technology and features.

The luxury car brand has been moving towards more angular and aggressive styles, with sleeker cars that appeal to younger buyers.

Cadillac is not the only General Motors brand attempting to shed an old-fashioned image.

Buick has also injected youth-appeal into their products and marketing with modern technology and entertaining commercials.

Obviously, if the current logo is seen as outdated, then it will not align with the Art and Science theme.

The logo has changed 40 times in Cadillac’s the 111-year history, with the wreath coming and going throughout the years.

According to Automotive News, trimming the logo “would give designers more flexibility to play with the ‘face’ of future Cadillacs”. A one-piece logo would be more adaptable to different locations on the vehicle, such as above the grille.

The original Cadillac logo was inspired by the family coat of arms of Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of Detroit.
