2015 GMC Canyon Makes First Appearance

The 2015 GMC Canyon was unveiled ahead of the North American International Auto Show, one of the largest auto events in the world.

The all-new mid-size truck, which raises the segment standard for horsepower, efficiency, and refinement, completes the full rejuvenation of GMC’s truck lineup, which now includes the mid-size Canyon, the light-duty Sierra 1500, and the hard-working Sierra HD.

2015 GMC Canyon: A New Standard for the Segment

GMC saw a hole in the American auto industry: since 2011, there has been no high-quality American midsize truck. General Motors, Ford, and the Chrysler Group all dropped the mid-size trucks in 2011, leaving the segment to foreign models like the Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, and Nissan Frontier which, with almost no competition, have now become stale and outdated.

The 2015 GMC Canyon is injecting some much-needed life into the segment, and it starts with capabilities. The 2015 Canyon will come with two engines choices – a 2.5L four-cylinder which gives an estimated 193 horsepower, and a 3.6L V6 which delivers 302 horses.

No matter which engine you choose, the 2015 GMC Canyon will be capable of carrying 1,450 lbs, which is the segment’s best payload. In another segment best, when properly equipped the 2015 GMC Canyon be capable of towing 6,700 lbs. To put that in perspective, the 2014 Toyota Tacoma is rated for a maximum towing of 3,500 lbs.

For Canyon drivers who need even more capability, a 2.8L Duramax turbodiesel will be available next year for the 2016 GMC Canyon.
